The selection committee has completed its selections. Captains are now contacting those who came out to the evaluation day to advise them of the results. Contacts:

Players MUST be registered ACTC members prior to participating on any team.

C team practices Saturday mornings; B team practices Sunday morning.

Team Selection Process:

ACTC is a community club with a mandate to foster affordable community tennis in partnership with the Town of Aurora. In sponsoring Club teams in our Inter-County leagues, this Board aspires to balance fielding competitive teams with fun and social play. The Inter-County leagues are meant to be a social league first and a competitive league second. With this in mind, the current ACTC Board created the following team selection system.

A selection committee is formed to evaluate and create a roster of players for each team. The Selection Committee is comprised of:

  1. Each captain from the previous year
  2. The ACTC Club Pro
  3. A qualified delegated ACTC Board member
  4. The ACTC Play Director oversees the Selection Committee and may participate in the selection process if there are differences on opinion.
This is a 5 person and sometimes 6 person evaluation process. The team roster is to be finalized using a consensus model. We want to give new members and developing players opportunities to advance in their competition levels, but ensuring the social components of the criteria are met as well.

Selection Criteria:

  • Evaluation on Inter-County Try Out Days (strokes, consistency, strategy, team play)
  • Past Year Won - Loss Record
  • Assessment of overall play aptitude & atttitude i.e. confidence, willing to learn, able to reflect and work on improvements to their game; adding to social harmony of team and club.
  • Players who choose not to try out, expecting to be automatically placed on a team, risk missing out on a place on the roster especially if the competition for a position is close.
  • All players must be ACTC members in good standing prior to tryouts and throughout the 2010 season

Captain Selection:

The ACTC Board, recognizing the contributions of captains for their energy and skill in coordinating and managing their team each year, want their input into the selection process. Once the team rosters have being created, the Captains may stand for election as captain for another year. If no other player wishes to take on the captain role, the past year captain is acclaimed. A majority vote is held by the team if there is more than one captain interested in managing the team.
