House Leagues & Schedule
Our very popular adult house leagues will be running again with the "A" league on Mondays and the "B" league on Wednesdays. For the mere $15 fee, there is no grand prize trip to Hawaii, so don't worry; it's all about having fun.

"A" league runs on Monday nights. It is a mixed league for intermediate to advanced tennis players.

"B" league runs on Wednesday nights. It is a mixed league for beginner tennis players or players who prefer to play at slower speed than the "A" league

We can accommodate 6 teams with 8 people each in each league. Players are chosen on a first-come, first-served basis. Once registration is complete the teams will be formulated. You will receive an email confirming your placement in the league mid-May.

Both A & B house leagues are run for 15 weeks. Start date for the 2010 season is May 31 for Monday Night House League and June 2 for Wednesday Night House League.

LEAGUE PLAY NOTES (for both Mon & Wed)

The objective of the ACTC house league is to provide fun recreational tennis throughout the summer on Monday evenings (for advanced and intermediate players) and Wednesday evenings (for beginner and intermediate players).

There will be six teams on both Mondays and Wednesdays, playing three matches each evening at 6:30, 8:00 & 9:30 – see schedule for exact times/teams.

The Monday and Wednesday team rosters and schedules are posted on the ACTC website.  Each team will have between six and eight players, and six players are scheduled to play each week.

If a player is unable to play on a particular week, they are responsible for finding their own substitute in order that their team will still have six players that week.  If a team is left with less than six players in a particular week, it ends up being unfair and inconvenient for both the team that is short and the team they are playing against.  Good sources of substitutes include players who are not scheduled to play that week, or players from the other night of house league (Monday or Wednesday), or other ACTC members who are not playing house league regularly.  Once a new Court Monitor is hired, they can be asked for help in finding a substitute player (club house phone: 905-727-3719).  Once a player has arranged a substitute, it is helpful to advise their team captain of the change.

TEAM CAPTAINS

Each team will have a captain who’s role will be to (i) set matches on each court, together with the other captain in order to make the three best matches possible each week, (ii) make sure scores are recorded in the black binder in the club house) for all three courts after the matches are finished, (iii) be a resource for teammates who are having difficulty finding a substitute, (iv) keep in touch with your team and help ensure that everyone has fun.

SCORING

The main objective in both Monday and Wednesday house leagues is to have fun.  While it is not the main priority, there will be the following system for scoring and standings.

Each court will play sets up to six games.  The sets will be won by two games, as usual, and settled by a seven point tiebreaker (won by two points) if the set gets to 6-6.  If there is a 3rd deuce in any particular game, then the third deuce should be played as a sudden death point to win the game, in the deuce court.  Each court can continue to play for the full 1.5 hours, including playing partial sets so there is no reason to stop after 2 sets.  Warm up for time should not exceed 10 minutes.  The match must finish 5 minutes prior to the end of the match time (7:55, 9:25 and 10:55). If the game in progress is not completed, continue to complete the game in progress. This uncompleted game can have only one deuce. After the second deuce the game will be terminated with a sudden death.

The statistics that will be recorded each week will be the total number of games played by each team, and the number of games won by each team.  Standings from week to week will be determined by dividing the total team games won by the total team games played.  The team with the highest % of games won will be ranked first, and so on.  As a result, any partial sets will contribute to the overall games played / games won results, just like a full set does.

Monday and Wednesday team standings will be posted regularly on the ACTC website.

RAIN DATES

Since the 15 week schedule extends into mid-September, there won’t be time to reschedule rained-out matches for later in the season.  However, the % scoring approach described above will mean that rained out games will not make a significant difference to a team’s overall % of games won.

We will do our best to advise if rain or inclement weather has cancelled any matches.

PLAYOFFS

The objective is to have a two-week playoff after the regular schedule as a finale to the house league season, weather permitting of course.  More details on the playoff schedule will be provided closer to that time.

Have fun and we’ll see you on the courts!
